The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the Federal Highway Administration proposed improvements to Highway 1 at Pitkins Curve and the northern chute of Rain Rocks along the Big Sur Coast in Monterey County, California. The project is on a state scenic highway and national scenic byway “All-American Road,” which is the only direct coastal link to the communities between San Simeon (San Luis Obispo County) and Carmel (Monterey County). This stretch of highway is considered one of the state’s most scenic drives, and is frequented by tourists as well as providing vital transportation for local residents.
In December, 2013, a $39 million a permanent slide repair project on State Route 1 along the Big Sur coast in Monterey County was completed to install a bridge and rock shed at Pitkins curve, one of the toughest highway maintenance challenges along California’s central coast.
The SEI Chemicals Graffiti Proofer was selected for this project and was applied over an elaborate 7-color staining system. The wall(s) featured in the above picture has approximately 12,000 sq. ft. that is coated and protected with SEI Industrial Chemicals GPA-300 Graffiti Proofer non-sacrificial anti-graffiti coating. Repeated graffiti removals can be performed without using any chemicals.
